It’s been going on for a while. Years, actually. And I thought it was time for me to come forward and confess: I am in love with mystery.
Once I enter a bookstore, my immediate inclination is to go and check out the mystery aisle. Of course, on my way there, thanks to the layout of the bookstore, I have to wade through other distractions: fantasy books, graphic novels, etc. However, the one that always makes me wonder is the Romance section.
You see, for whatever reason, this genre is right beside the mystery section. Indeed, you can imagine my horror as I walk past rows of books with the mandatory shirtless men with rippling muscles and eight-packs (I wonder how come these men on romance book covers never have pot bellies. What is the world turning to? I mean, real men have pot bellies, right?) But that’s not all. Oh no. The said man is usually clutching a similarly carved-to-perfection woman in a highly suggestive pose. I just have to believe that the man is not asking her for directions to the local bakery. Or asking her what the time is.
Anyway, after surviving those minor mishaps, I eventually make it to the mystery section. And there, I am at peace.
So, what’s your favorite part of the bookstore, if any?

It changes with the seasons but right now, its YA fantasy
Sisi Jacobs: Young Adult Fantasy? Interesting. I knew there was a category for Fantasy, but didn’t know about the ‘sub-genre.’ Interesting stuff.
I love the comic ,mystery, and thriller (xtian fantasy & thrillers) sections. I was reading one in a bus and someone had the gall to ask, ” do they buy and read comics”?
Villebilingue: There’s christian fantasy? Interesting! I had no idea.
