Happy Tuesday! Believe it or not, this is the last full week in February. Where did the month go? Wouldn’t you like to know! But anyway, February is the shortest month, so we shouldn’t be surprised. Today, we’re talking about early morning music.
Have you noticed that the first song you hear in the morning stays with you for the whole day? Yes, it’s true. Early morning music, a.k.a the song you listen to in the morning (or the song that’s thrust upon you in the morning, in some cases) has a powerful effect on the rest of your day.
It can even determine or set your mood for the day, which is why gospel radio stations, for example, opt for songs that are uplifting for their early morning music playlists. Mornings are when most people prepare for the day ahead, and music is the soundtrack playing in the background of those activities, including:
- Getting ready for work or school: Brushing your teeth, taking a shower, eating breakfast … or not.
- Commuting / Traveling to work or school: Unless you’re taking an online class, so you just move from bedroom to wherever your laptop or computer is. Pyjamas are fine. The same applies to working from home.
- Exercising: Walking, running, jogging, lifting weights, etc are all done with music playing in the background … or in someone’s headphones. Dancing while ironing your clothes counts as cardio, right? I thought so too.
- Walking your pets: Some people have more than one.
- Looking for your pets: Yes, early morning is when you discover that the pet hamster is on the loose because somebody left its cage open. Let’s hope your neighbor’s pet cat hasn’t developed a special taste for hamster meat. Classic food chain stuff: one is the eater, the other is the eaten.
- Watering your plants: If you have any. Or staring at them and wondering why they’re wilting, not growing.
- Cleaning your apartment, house, yard, compound: Or mobilizing your minions children to do it for you.
- Studying for classes and tests: Some people cannot study in perfect silence. They need some type of white noise or music playing in the background to absorb what they’re studying. I guess boarding school authorities didn’t get the memo sha. Can you imagine people playing music during night prep? Not happening. (Did you know there are music playlists for studying? A lot of them are epic movie soundtracks. Check them out on YouTube)
- Preparing to go to bed: Yes, some people work crazy shifts, so sunrise is actually bedtime for them after working all night long.
- Working: If you’re already at your desk before 7:00am, early morning music really helps to move things along faster. And coffee too.
Regardless of what you’re doing, early morning music makes time pass faster. So, there is wisdom in being selective. Be selective about what type of early morning music you choose to listen to because they become the songs you “can’t get out of your head” for the rest of the day. Choose wisely.
Have a great week!
