Good Morning, Miss!

I think bi / multilingualism is awesome, i.e. if you can speak more than one language, that’s great. Apart from English, I speak Yoruba, not as fluently as I would like.  I fill in words I don’t know in Yoruba with English words, instead, so you can imagine what a conversation with me in Yoruba would sound like:

Me: S’eti wo Skyfall, movie James Bond lori TV?

Translation: Have you watched, Skyfall, the James Bond movie on TV?

See, I already warned you, so you can pick up your jaw from the floor now.

Anyway, one thing most people can say in another language is “Hello,” or at least, the greeting for different times of the day.

For example, in French, I would say ‘Bonjour‘ which of course means, ‘Good Morning.’

In Yoruba, I would say ‘E kaaro.’  Same thing.

If I just met you and wanted to say ‘Hello’ in Yoruba, I would say “Bawo ni?” Note:  You may or may not accompany your ‘bawo ni’ with kneeling down or dobale-ing (prostrating). I won’t object. 😀
