I heard about this last week, and went around digging for more information.

As it turns out, it is partially true.  The Library of Congress is archiving tweets, but they are only for America, i.e. America’s tweets.  So, why are they doing this? Short answer: For posterity.  A longer answer is “to collect the story of America and to acquire collections that will have research value.”

Do you think your own tweets will have any research value? That’s food for thought, ba? This is one more reason to think twice before you tweet.

You can read more of the story on Business Insider.
