I heard this at a seminar I attended recently, and thought to share. William Faulkner, the American writer from Mississippi, who was also a Nobel laureate, struggled with writer’s block.
But that’s not the cool part.
He had two methods for overcoming the dreaded ‘condition’:
- Write anything: This worked sometimes
- Read Don Quixote*: This worked everytime
So, there you have it. If you are suffering from writer’s block, use Faulkner’s method: Read Don Quixote.
You can start by downloading a free e-book copy on Project Gutenberg. You’re welcome. 🙂
*The full title is “The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha” and it was written by Miguel de Cervantes (Saavedra)
